Conrad Bergendoff

Dr. Conrad Bergendoff graduated from Augustana College (Rock Island) in 1915 and from the Augustana Theological Seminary in 1925, later earning a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, and a Th.D. from the University of Uppsala (Sweden). He served as President of Augustana College from 1936 to 1962 and President of the Augustana Seminary from 1936 to 1948, and concentrated his scholarship on Swedish Reformation history, Martin Luther’s works, and Lutheran church history in America. Augustana’s fine arts building, Bergendoff Hall, is named for him. He died in December 1997.
