Gatherings That Inspire, Equip, and Connect

• Dates: November 6–7, 2026
• Location: Chicago, IL

Faith-affiliated higher education institutions, particularly those within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), face unique challenges and opportunities in today’s rapidly changing educational landscape. Board leadership plays a pivotal role in ensuring that these institutions remain faithful to their mission while adapting to new realities in governance, finance, enrollment, diversity, and public trust.

This is a dedicated forum/retreat for Board Chairs, Vice-Chairs, and/or designated board representatives which will provide a space to:

• Reflect on the distinctive vocation of Lutheran higher education.

• Strengthen governance practices rooted in faith and mission.

• Share strategies for navigating complex challenges in higher education.

• Build a network of peer support among board leaders.

We look forward to hosting your board chairs and Presidents in Chicago this November!

Every three years, thousands of high schoolers and their adult leaders from across the ELCA come together for the ELCA Youth Gathering. It’s not just an event but a movement in which faith ignites and community comes alive. Through inspiring speakers, experiential learning and transformative connections, young people experience the church in bold, unforgettable ways. Each night, participants share a unique faith experience through high-energy worship and powerful storytelling. The Gathering is an opportunity to ask big questions, grow in faith and be part of something bigger than yourself. The theme for the 2027 Youth Gathering is "Imagine More"

NECU will be showing up in multiple ways at the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering. Various member institutions will be partnering with the ENGAGE center and will meet with thousands of high schoolers throughout the gathering. You will also see many NECU Presidents on the main stage on the final night of the Gathering. We look forward to seeing you in Minneapolis!
